Awatovi Black-On-Yellow Bowl

Many people have the misconception that the Ancestral Pueblo of the Four Corners region disappeared after the AD 1200s. According to oral histories, the people moved south and became the modern Pueblo tribes. Early Hopi people made bowls like this one. Notice the break in the painted band near the rim. Hopi leave a space like that, so they don’t get “trapped” in the design.
